Textiles et tissus -- IndustrieIndex. décimale : 677.46 Cellulosiques : rayonnes, acetates Résumé : Natural fibers have an equal place alongside synthetic and regenerated fibers in the world of textile products (Fig. 1). Nowadays, natural fibers of plant or animal origin can be described as terrestrial natural fibers, as they are produced on land. The cultivation and production of these fibers on land require a high amount of land use, which competes with other land uses such as food production. In contrast, the cultivation of aquatic plant fibers represents a quantum leap in the world of textile raw materials, as natural fiber resources can now be provided almost decoupled from agricultural land use. Fibrous aquatic plants grow as natural fibers in water, and the strategic advantage of such a habitat for their cultivation is immediately apparent when looking at our world map: 71% of our planet is covered by water.' Textiles et tissus -- IndustrieIndex. décimale : 677 Textiles Résumé : With the switch from the small lines of 100 tons/day each to one 300 ton/ day line for staple fiber production, a leading producer in Asia has reduced its production costs by 25-30 %. A solid track record of manufacturing high capacity staple fiber lines and experience in customized engineering solutions, were the factors to partner with Oerlikon Neumag. The strong cooperation as a team between both parties made a successful solution possible within a limited building space and tight schedule. This cooperation is an example of how a long term partnership evolves.
