Modern leathers are processed to very stringent technical specifications so that they will meet end use requirements. In most cases, to fulfil current demands for leather with very fastness, the use of cross-linkers is needed.
Due to differences in the manufacturing processes of polyurethanes and acrylic binders, their structural differences, and the type of tanned and retanned leather being used, variations in cross-linking may occur. Quality discrepancies will therefore be observed in the finished leather.
This study explores the influence of a cationic pre-bottom on the cross-linking reaction of polyaziridine, as well as the influence of the type of polymer employed and the type of tannage and retannage effected on the amount of cross-linker needed to improve wet physical properties of the finishing.
A comparison of results shows that the application of a cationic pre-bottom improves fastness to wet rub, this improvement being most significant in polyurethane rather than in acrylic binders. Furthermore, the cationic prebottom provides beter results when working with resin-synthetic-vegetable retanned leather and vegetable leathers. However, different amounts of polyaziridine are needed with regard to the content of carboxylic acid groups of the polymers being used.En ligne : https://drive.google.com/file/d/1_vAFG39wvCNrj5Axv_7qzNT9PhfrjBXm/view?usp=drive [...] Format de la ressource électronique : Permalink : https://e-campus.itech.fr/pmb/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=5937

Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : The aim of this work is the characterization and evaluation of four types of topcoats used in leather finished leather samples using the same products. The samples were tested in the laboratory to evaluate their physical resistances and fastness properties.
A comparison of results shows that all the products studied for each type of topcoat present practically the same functional groups ; there are no significatn differences between the recorded spectra of each of the products in a group and the spectra once they have been applied to the leather. In addition, there are no significant differences in the physical resistances and fastnesses obtained, except for the organoleptic properties (level of gloss, feel, etc.). However, strong evidence seems to indicate that topcoat improves wet properties of the finished leather. Moreover, the study of th IR spectra bothy of the products and finished leather samples after an accelerated ageing test provides more objective date rather than that obtained from traditional methods.En ligne : https://drive.google.com/file/d/1dtpmNCmm-frnElkxvFF1NHmiOWmwsrI-/view?usp=drive [...] Format de la ressource électronique : Permalink : https://e-campus.itech.fr/pmb/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=6102

Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : In response to pressures of globalization and easy relocation of leather factories to low-cost countries, to environmental legislation and changes in consumer behaviour, the leather industry needs to produce innovative, fashionable and eco-friendly articles. We studied a coating formulation in this work for a metallic foil patent finish which tackles all these issues. In addition, we replaced solvent products by aqueous products in order to reduce the emissions of volatile organic compounds. The finished leathers were transparent, smooth, with a glossy appearance (almost glass-like) and with a metallic effect. The leathers meet the quality requirements for shoe upper and leather goods, and are commercially acceptable. Moreover, there is a 96,08 % reduction of emissions of volatil organic compounds. Langues : Américain (ame) Index. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : In response to the current needs of the leather market, competing manufacturers have to be flexible, adaptable and quick at producing leather goods that are both technologically innovative and fashionable. A new coating formulation has been studied in order to obtain an article which meets these two characteristics. The present study aims to obtain a patent leather finish with a pull-up effect. In addition, it aims to make improvements in the process by replacing the usual solvent based patent top with an aqueous patent topcoat. As a result, the article obtained in industrial scale complies with the European Union Council Directive 1999/13/EC of 11 march 1999 (on the limitation of emissions of volatile organic compounds due to the use of organic solvents in certain activities and installations).
The finished leathers obtained with this new coating formulation are transparent, smooth, with a glossy look (almost glass-like) and with an accentuated pull-up effect. All the necessary requirements for shoes uppers and leather goods are met.En ligne : https://drive.google.com/file/d/1A0Fqt3pqPVCS8yJCt7EcXGCe3vkimJrn/view?usp=drive [...] Format de la ressource électronique : Permalink : https://e-campus.itech.fr/pmb/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=4481
