This included determination of the films mechanical properties, colour change (when subjected to artificial weathering), resistance to water and water-vapour transmission rates. Our investigations revealed there to be little difference between the two types of polymer in the 15-55% Pigment Volume Concentration (PVC) range. As earlier work showed, an optimum PVC and the right combination of pigment and extender are more important than the type of binder. Note de contenu : - Investigation of two typical commercial acrylic dispersion binders
- Test methods and mechanical testing (tensile strength/elongation at break) on the films
- Testing discoloration
- Interaction between the pigment and binder depends on the amount of absorbed water
- The water absorption drops with the number of wash/dry cycles
- Water-vapour transmission rate decrease with PVC
- Two opposing effects influence tensile properties
- Water toughens and improves the extensibility of Ak/S paint films more than Ak paint films
- Pure acrylic paints exhibit superior light stability than acrylic/styrene ones
- Practically no yellowing

Titre : Additives for foam control Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Vladimir V. Verkholantsev, Auteur Année de publication : 1999 Article en page(s) : p. 50-63 Note générale : Bibliogr. Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The incorporation of air into paints during paint manufacture, handling and transport, and in the course of coating application is unavoidable. Mixing, dissolving, filtration, spraying and a number of other operations that are associated with stirring, pouring etc. produce foam. Foam is an air/liquid disperse system, containing bilateral liquid films stabilized with surfactant molecules. There are a few techniques that can be employed to destroy the foam, particularly mechanical, thermal and cheminical methods. The physicochemical approach, that is the use of foam controlling additives, is the most useful in paints and coatings. Note de contenu : - What foams are
- Cheminical composition, colloidal characteristics and surfactant concentration influence foam generation
- Foaming may cause various coating defects
- Foam in paints and coatings
- There are two forms of air entrapment : bubbles and foam
- Foam formation and stabilization
- Foam control mechanisms
- Active substances, surface active agents, and carrier fluids are typical defoamer components
- Defoamer molecules must enter the bubbles spontaneously and spread across it
- Surfactants and defoamers form similar structures
- Efficiency of defoamers
- Three groups of defoamers for paints and coatins
- Surface healing
- Defoamers must provide efficient defoaming, good wetting, easy and complete emulsification in water
- Silicone-based and organic-based defoamers
- Two methods to assess the efficiency of defoamers

Titre : Corrosion resistance of siliconized-epoxy coatings Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : S. Ananda Kumar, Auteur ; M. Alagar, Auteur ; V. Mohan, Auteur Année de publication : 1999 Article en page(s) : p. 64-67 Note générale : Bibliogr. Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Though number of paint systems are available based on epoxy resin for submerged structures, they are not satisfactory from the view point of prevention of corrosion due to foulants. Hence, in the present investigation a new hybrid coating based on siliconised-epoxy interpenetrating polymeric networks have been developed and their corrosion resistant behaviour was studied by weight loss method. In the present study, the commercially available epoxy system GY 250 has been modified by siloxane grafting and the modified resin system is cured by two different curatives viz., aliphatic amine and polyamidoamine. The siliconized epoxy systems cured with aliphatic amine exhibit better corrosion protection due to high cross link density as well as better hydrophobic nature than the system cured with polyamidoamine. For example the epoxy grafted with 10% siloxane gives 98-99% corrosion protection to steel surface, whereas pure epoxy system gives only 80-92% corrosion protection under similar conditions of test. Further, the addition of zinc powder to the coating formulation enhances higher corrosion protection. Note de contenu : - Polymeric coatings play a vital role of surface protection techniques
- Surface preparation of test specimen
- Preparation of siliconozed-epoxy interpenetrating coating systems
- Standardization of siloxane into epoxy system
- Application of coating over test specimens
- Calculation of weight loss

Titre : Novel waterborne amine hardeners for ambient curing epoxy coatings Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Alex Wegmann, Auteur ; Thomas Vogel, Auteur Année de publication : 1999 Article en page(s) : p. 34-43 Note générale : Bibliogr. Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Two new waterborne amine adduct hardeners with different reactivity (high/low) have been developed. By mixing the two curing agents, it is possible to tune the reactivity of the formulation. The influence of the reaction temperature and the stoichiometry on the potlife and on other paint properties is discussed. The potlife is determined by the MFT method. The hardeners contain no VOC, and can be used with both liquid epoxy resins and solid epoxy resin emulsions. Special features, like early moisture resistance and the yellowing tendency of coatings are high-lighted. Several starting formulations, e.g., highgloss topcoats, concrete primers, and matt floorings, are presented. This paper helps to demonstrate that waterborne epoxy systems have reached a level of performance that make them adequate substitutes for conventional formulations in many applications. Note de contenu : - Interest in water-based epoxies is growing
- Two news aqueous hardeners without VOC
- Products used for paint formulations and coatings
- Paint formulations, application, test methods
- Influence of hardener reactivity, stoichiometry, and reaction temperature on MFT and potlife
- Influence of stoichiometry on the coating properties and paint viscosity
- Storage stability and dilutability of the hardeners
- Coatings based on solid resin emulsions yellow slower
- Fast systems enables opening floor coatings the same day to foot traffic
- Low reactive hardener guarantees a long potlife
- A pigmented formulation for a matt floor finish
- Ratio of slow to fast hardener can be adjusted as well to fit the reactivity requirementsEn ligne : https://drive.google.com/file/d/1vBBkqS4pZJ2c_ou9MhT9qhtm4wfmksC2/view?usp=drive [...] Format de la ressource électronique : Permalink : https://e-campus.itech.fr/pmb/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=11191
