Formulators who have to provide optimum product performance at the best cost are sometimes overwhelmed by this vast array of choices. Consequently, the manufacturer of reactive diluents is confronted with a multitude of customer inquiries asking how an individual monomer behaves in a particular formulation for example.

According to a report released by the National Science and Technology Council (NSTC) 'Nanoscience and Nanotechnology generally refer to the world as it works on the nanometer scale, say from one nanometer to several hundred nanometers'. If we interpret this to mean that a nanoparticle can range in size from one to 700 nanometers, then we can say that most of the components processed on bead mills fall into the area of nanotechnology.
Most pigments used in inks and coatings, for example, have a primary particle size from at least 0.02 microns (µm) or 20 nanometers, up to 200 nanometers. For this article, let us assume that the nanoparticles desired are less than 200 nanometers. Our goal then, will be to identify the required operating conditions for a bead mill to grind and disperse particles to that size.Note de contenu : - Particle size control

Within a relatively 'mature' production concept like that employed in automobile manufacture it will be particularly important for the future automotive coating to establish how the coating process and its requisite infrastructure can be integrated into changing material selection concepts in body construction and production processes on acceptable economic terms. It will be imperative to be able to produce sustainable solutions for controlling a level of complexity that is increasing exponential. Structural design and production concept have to be taken into account and the increasing demands in terms of functional quality for coatings have to be projected in formulations and application techniques. The only road to the future will involve reorientation. In order to quantify its embodiments the present status must be applied as an initial platform for the change efforts in order to evaluate whether it will be feasible to implement innovative approaches economically.Note de contenu : - Body construction
