Titre : A comparative study of waterborne epoxy-acrylic graft copolymer dispersion based coatings and solvent based coatings for can coating applications Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Randhir Parmar, Auteur ; Ashok Dighe, Auteur ; Niranjan V. Patel, Auteur ; Jayant S. Parmar, Auteur Année de publication : 2004 Article en page(s) : p. 51-64 Note générale : Bibliogr. Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Epoxy-Acrylic Graft copolymer Dispersions (EAGDs) were prepared from various grades of Epoxies by grafting Acrylic monomers on it including methacrylic acid to render water compatibility after neutralisation with tertiaryamine. The waterborne can coating compositions were prepared by varying the type ofEAGDs and amount of curing agent, hexamethoxy methyl melamine (HMMM). These compositions were evaluated for their various physico-chemical characteristics and film properties after curing at 200°C for 15 minutes. The conventional Epoxy-phenolic solvent based can coating compositions were also similarly characterised for their performance properties and for the comparison purpose. The study revealed the excellent performance of certain EAGD based waterborne coatings compared to the conventional solvent based can coatings. Titre : Grafting epoxy resins Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Randhir Parmar, Auteur ; Kalpesh Patel, Auteur ; Niranjan Patel, Auteur ; Jayant S. Parmar, Auteur Année de publication : 2004 Article en page(s) : p. 32-37 Note générale : Bibliogr. Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Waterborne coatings - Waterbornes industrial coatings are the key area of interest for researchers because of industrial pollution, industrial safety and stringent legislations. Epoxy resins of higher molecular weight were grafted with acrylic monomers, neutralized and reacted with N-butoxymethacrylamide to generate curing site on its backbone and give water compatibility. Sets of self-curing coating composition were prepared and their physico-chemical charactéristics such as particle size and viscosity were measured. The performance properties of the cured films reveal their potential applications as high performance coating binders for waterborne coatings. Titre : Novel acrylamide based curing agents for water borne coatings Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Niranjan Patel, Auteur ; Randhir Parmar, Auteur ; Tushar P. Patel, Auteur ; Jayant S. Parmar, Auteur Année de publication : 2004 Article en page(s) : p. 73-84 Note générale : Bibliogr. Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The water-borne acrylamide based curing agents (WACAs) were synthesized using various proportions of methylmethacrylate (MMA), formaldehyde and methanol. These curing agents were blended with water borne hydroxyl functional acrylic resins (WHFAC) and the resulting compositions were applied on test panels. The coating compositions were also made from conventional hexamethoxy methyl melamine (HMMM) resin for comparison study. All the coated panels were stored at 150°C for 15 mins. The WACAs were characterized for their physical properties, IR-spectra and molecular weight by GPC. The coated films were also characterized for their mechanical properties, chemical, solvent, and water resistance and for thermal properties by TGA and DSC. The results indicate that comparable coating performance is achieved for some of the coating compositions under study. Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are a major concern in the environmental pollution by organic solvents used in paint industry. The current trend is towards eco-friendly coatings like water borne coatings. The present work focusses on the method of preparing the Epoxy-Acrylic graft copolymer dispersions. The various experimental sets were prepared by varying the reaction parameters as well as compositions. The EAGDs were then characterized for their physico-chemical characteristics like nonvolatile content, water compatibility, viscosity, particle size, shelf stability as well as the instrumental methods viz. GPC (molecular weight), IR-Spectra and DSC where also employed for the analysis. Thus the optimization was carried out for the EAGDs to be used for the water borne industrial coatings.
