Although many new improvised procedures were put forward, the lack of simplicity and automation leaves the void. The present study addresses these issues and offers a procedure that is closer to automated approach leading to finding that without the requirement of any special device the regular liquid chromatographic instrument can support a quick, simple and efficient method for hexavalent chromium detection in strongly colored leathers. The method was found to be effective in the removal of wide range of dyes and serving the detection of hexavalent chromium in ppb levels with %RSD of max. 3.5. Séparation (technologie)Index. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : This study addressed the analysis of aromatic amines from azo dyes and dyed consumer articles mainly based on leather as they are subjected to screening for release of any of the 24 hazardous aryl amines listed by the European agency. This study involves a reverse phase SPE approach for enriching, and cleaning-up of the matrices to facilitate further analysis by UPLC. The proposed study does away with tertiary butyl ether, other solvents and subsequent evaporation steps thereby cutting down the solvent usage to a major extent (from close to 80ml into 2ml) in sample preparation and the further analysis developed by UPLC, cut short the gradient analysis from 40 min to 6 min enabling additionally the reduction of solvent for mobile phase. Thus the procedure is improvised to serve as Green analytical procedure. The present study offers the scope to complete the sample preparation in 45 min in comparison to 180min by the official procedure (excluding the degreasing step in both these cases). The proposed procedure is simple to adopt with more efficient recovery values in the range 52-104% for all the analytes. The LOD and LOQ of the analysis were 2?g g -1 and 9?g g -1. Note de contenu : - EXPERIMENTAL : Chemicals and reagents - Instrumentation - UPLC condition followed for the aryl amine separation - List of banned aryl amines - release of aryl amine from dyed articles - SPE extraction of aryl amines. This step is the beginning of the new approach

Titre : A simple and effective method for Cr(VI) analysis in dyed leathers Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : R. Ganeshjeevan, Auteur ; Raghavan Chandrasekar, Auteur ; S. Shanmuga Priya, Auteur ; Ganga Radhakrishnan, Auteur Année de publication : 2004 Article en page(s) : p. 12-15 Note générale : Bibliogr. Langues : Américain (ame) Index. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : Spectrophotometric detection of Cr(VI) by 1,5-diphenylcarbazide derivatization method recommended by the IUC-18 protocol suffers seriously due to the interference of colorants present in dyed leather extracts. Recently a C-18 reverse phase cartridge clean up for the color removal was recommended but the method has limitations. The present paper suggests an alternate material, which serves better for the removal of interfering colors. This method is rapid, very effective, and economic for the detection of Cr(VI) in finished leathers.
