Solvent-based adhesives have a low surface tension that gratly enhances their wetting to low-energy surfaces. However, these adhesives are high in volatile organic compounds (VOCs), and have flammability and health issues.
Over the past two decades, the PSA market has shown a continued shift from solvent- to water-based systems. Coating methods also evolved during the growth of PSA and laminating adhesive products in the past 10 years. As a result of this shift, the adhesive formulator faces several challenges. These are effective high speed/dynamic wetting, foam control, minimum impact on adhesive properties and good application rheology.Note de contenu : - Overview and classification
