Hyperbranched polymer (HBP) is one of the valuable additives for making such materials. It is a unique additive in the sense it provides simultaneous improvement in many properties of wide range of epoxy products like composites, coatings, and adhesives. This paper reviews the recent literature on epoxy materials made using HBP additives. In addition, we have briefly discussed our recent work on the development of epoxy systems using two new am ino functional hyperbranched phenalkamine curing agents that use cardanol. As an additive, presence of reactive as well as nonreactive types of HBP in the epoxy have an impact that covers different aspects like improvement in various properties, morphology of cured products and influence on the kinetics of curing reaction. Nanofiller containing HBP in epoxy composites and coatings are found to provide excellent properties at lower nanofiller content than composites of micron sized conventional fillers in the absence of HBP. Such composites and some more ideas for future development are discussed in this review. Note de contenu : - SYNTHESIS AND CLASSIFICATION OF HBP
- EPOXY SYSTEMS CONTAINING NONREACTIVE HBP : - Polyester and polyether HBP with hydroxyl or thiol end groups - Ester end group containing polyester polyols - Miscellaneous nonreactive HBP derivatives - ENC containing nonreactive HBP
