Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Due to the increasingly use of plastics as construction materials in automotive, electronics and telecommunication fields, paintability of plastics is getting very important. The world of coated plastics is enormously widespread and of great variety. Plastics represent materials that increasingly have an impact on the many facets of everyday life. Oftern, plastics materials will require coatings or markings to enhance their function or appeal. Designers and manufacturers of technical coatings routinely experience unique challenges when dealing with plastics due to the material's chemical and physical nature. This, in turn, offers a very big opportunity for business growth for the paints and coatings industry.
This presentation addresses concepts pertaining to the "Coating for plastics" from the coatings formulator's perspective and includes, among other features, discussions on the nature of plastics surfaces, wetting and adhesion and adhesion promotion.Note de contenu : - Why plastics

Titre : Paint removers for coatings on plastic substrates and electrodeposited coatings Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Rahul Rane, Auteur ; Kaustubh Joglekar, Auteur ; V. C. Malshe, Auteur Année de publication : 2003 Article en page(s) : p. 61-84 Note générale : Bibliogr. Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : There are three reasons for coating the plastic materials :
a) For functional properties such as to increase the conductivity, to increase the surface properties such as mar resistance, solvent resistance, moisture, air or vapor transmission resistance or even to protect the plastic substrate from light.
b) For decorative purposes
c) Economic purpose. For example instead of using effect pigments in the plastic substrate, it is possible to produce an irridescence by using a coating based on effect pigment in place of blending the pigment in the bulk plastic. Thus the high cost pigment need not be wasted in the bulk of the plastic.
All coated products in the industry require some reworking. A small portion of the production may be totally defective and would require total stripping. In this paper, experimental results of paint removing compositions for electrodeposited metal coatings and plastic coatings are described.Note de contenu : - Removal plastic coatings

RevêtementsIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The coatings are mainly used for two reasons namely aesthetics and protection. Corrosion resistant coatings protect through a combination of two mechanisms. By acting as a physical barrier to exclude the environment and by containing reactive materials : (usually) pigments that solubilize or react in a manner that inhibits corrosion or slows the binder aging characteristics. The reason for the failure of coating can be categorized in terms of environmental effects through moisture and oxygen transmission, solvent resistance and chemical as alos through improper application. A demand for these coatings are growing up worldwide. It is a necessity to adjust the deepness and the colour shade of such coatings on the request of designers or on original colours, “OEM-Original Equipment Materials”, of the automotive industries. To produce consistent black paints in a good and required quality, it Is essential to know the paint manufacturing parameters, which will influence the final results. The method of “Design of Experiments” (DoE) can help here and is used for this study to gain information from the experimental results as much as possible.
Hence the question arises : “What can the developer vary in order to obtain the desired coloristic properties, as regards pigment carbon black, jetness and hue?”

Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The paint industry is a highly competitive market; manufacturers share the need to improve the production efficiency and flexibility at the same time in order to optimize profitability and increase market share. Furthermore a growing number of products have to be produced in a large variety of colors and packaging within a short time. Historically the manufacturer has colored coating formulations with pigments dispersed in the coating vehicle. This approach required making many different tint pastes, in each vehicle system. Recent technological advances in pigment dispersing agents have allowed developing pre-manufactured colorants with a wide range of compatibility, such as waterborne and solventborne coatings. The colorants are liquid and can be added by means of gravimetric or volumetric tinting machines. The pigment loading may be adjusted from low to high pigment concentrations and are formulated using a vehicle/ stabilizer medium showing a wide range of compatibility. The formulation and performances of colorants based on following dispersant media will be demonstrated. ? Multifunctional polyether anionic surfactant for waterborne colorants, designed for use in architectural coatings (Nuosperse® FA 620) ? Diblock-polymer for waterborne colorants for industrial coatings (Nuosperse® FX 365) ? Nonionic. APE-free surfactant, for universal conlorants, compatible in waterborne and solventborne coatings (Nuosperse® FN 265) ? Nonionic polyether amid, for the preparation of NO-VOC universal colorants (Nuosperse® 2000) ? Triblock-copolymer, for solventborne coating formulations (Nuosperse® FX 9086). Special attention will he given to storage stability and compatibility of the colorants as well as to the effect of the colorants in various dosages to characteristic paint properties, including water sensibility, color development and gloss. It will be demonstrated that colorants produced with the dispersing agents can be used successfully for tinting purposes of a wide range of decorative and industrial coating formulations.
