The high PVC (pigment volume concentration) waterborne paints are very important in Indian context and thus needs more attention for the researchers and business equally. In typical high PVC waterborne paint the end performances are governed by the surface interactions of inorganic fillers and surfactant molecules causing various morphologies, surface conditioning and particle packing. These parameters in turn have profound effect on the end performances of coatings which include self-stability, rheology, optical properties, flow and levelling and mechanical properties of the dried film.
In the present study, surfactants with varied molecular weights, functional groups, molecular arch itect and polarities are employed to understand the interactions with varied inorganic particulates commonly used in paint (carbonates, sulphates, silicates). The performance of the various experimental sets demonstrates the strong co-relation of the surfactant properties on the interactions with the inorganic particulates. Thus the trend analysis is useful tool for the formulator to strategize the composition for gain i ng maximum from the suitable interactions.Note de contenu : - OBJECTIVE
