Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Novel waterborne acrylic resins with unique core/shell structures utilizing modern selfcrosslinking chemistry have been developed. Coatings fromulated with these resins exhibit excellent mar resistance, sandability, good hardness and outstanding resistance toward water and various chemicals such as acetone and methyl ethyl ketone. This paper will describe the design, synthesis, characterization and coating performance of these recently developed self-crosslinkable waterborne acrylic core/shell resins. A mechanistic elucidation of the relationship between the material structure and the coatings performance also with be attempted. Note de contenu : - Core-shell acrylic emulsion polymer synthesis

Titre : Associative thickeners for viscosity retention upon tinting Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Klaus Dziwok, Auteur Année de publication : 2004 Article en page(s) : p. 53-58 Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Rheology is an important topic in waterborne paints. Compared to solventborne paints, there is a greater variation of thickeners like cellulose ethers, acrylates, bentonite clays or the group of associative thickeners. In high-quality waterborne paints the associative thickeners are gaining an important role relative to the other thickeners. This is due to their unique benefits that lead to better leveling, better brush drag and reduced spatter in wet application. They also impart better water resistance to the dried paint film. These properties are achieved due to their general chemical structure. Note de contenu : - Aminoplast associative thickeners

Titre : Paints for concrete exteriors : Growing in importance Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Arjun Sen, Auteur Année de publication : 2004 Article en page(s) : p. 83-86 Note générale : bibliogr. Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The construction industry is changing the way it protects exterior masonry, and is moving away from traditional finishes. It also recognizes the need for coatings to protect masonry from the effects of weather as well as the cosmetic and decorative functions. As a result, this has fueled the growth of the exterior coatings market as a whole.
For several years now Acrylic polymer emulsions have been the foundation of modern coatings for masonry exteriors. Their advantages are faster drying, good adhesion on non mineral surfaces, better pigmentation and simple handling. Formulations uing 15 to 22% polymer emulsion led to closed films with excellent weather resistance and very low water pick up. Their improved water resistance compared to other paints that are in use is a great improvement.
But building exteriors are still damaged. This exhibits the limits of the acrylic polymer emulsion systems. Lack of high water vapour permeability becomes a great disadvantage, especially when construction defects are found on the roofs or a missing protection allows migration of water from foundations. Acrylic polymer emulsions will not allow water, in the form of water vapour, to escape by diffusion. As a result blisters form and flaking can occur. Finally there's no more protection for the masonry and decomposition takes place.Note de contenu : - FUNCTIONS OF A MASONRY COATING

Titre : Driers : How to test their presence Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Susanta Kumar Panigrahi, Auteur Année de publication : 2004 Article en page(s) : p. 89-94 Note générale : Bibliogr. Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Driers are known for their role in the drying of inks. The presence of a different drier not only enhances the drying but also affects the mass tone of ink particularly in light colored inks. Thus it is essential to know which drier is present in the ink to check is quality. Thus, here we have explained how to determine which drier is present in the ink chemically. It is a little known fact that in addition to drying, drier also helps to attain the ink – water balance at the pressroom. The mechanism of this ink – water balance is also explained in this article.
