Today's paint systems are often so complex, and our technology so advanced that it is possible to overlook the exact nature of a problem and end up using the wrong discipline in the effort to investigate it. We often assumed that the cause of a problem is of a chemical nature when, in reality , it may only be due to a physical effect.
Problems with gloss and durability are usually blamed on the resin used in a coating. Poor color strength or hue as well as other properties such as opacity, transparency, of gloss are often blamed on off-spec pigment. Many of the problems we experience are not due to chemical reactions or poor raw material quality, but rather only to the number and size of pigment agglomerates in the coating, a property which the paint manufacturer should, and can control. |
