Revêtements en phase aqueuse -- Additifs:Peinture en phase aqueuse -- AdditifsIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : This paper looks at innovations proposed by Eliokem to produce high quality, VOC compliant, waterborne stain-blocking paints and primers.
Stain blocking properties are linked to the ability of the paint film to inhibit the migration of a wide range of coloured components of different chemical types. This work has demonstrated that paints formulated with the innovative EBS for interior are able to achieve very good stain blocking properties on anionic or cationic hydrophilic stains as well as on lipohilic stains.
In addition, the unique film formation mechanism of EBS technology results in very good penetration power, and thus long lasting adhesion to porous substrates.
The solvent of the emulsion has been selected to limit the migration of lipophilic stains and its quantity has been adjusted to lower the viscosity of particules without compromising compliance with the Decopaint VOC Directive.
As the film formation of EBS for interior occurs by simple solvent evaporation, paints formulated with this binder are tension free and can consequently be used on low cohesion surfaces. The solvent is located inside the particules, resulting in secured film formation even in high relative humidity conditions.
These properties fulfill the requirements for high performance stain blocking paints to be used for new construction as well as refurbishment and the new emulsion provides a technological advance because it overcomes the main weaknesses of waterborne technologies available today on the market.Note de contenu : - The nature of stains and stain migration mechanism

Revêtements protecteursIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Epoxy binder systems are the technology of choice for high demanding applications, such as heavy-duty anti-corrosion paints or oil & gas pipe coatings, heavy duty flooring applications and many more. Such epoxy binder systems have a track history of many decades and have proven their ability to cope with the severest environments. However, performance requirements are continuously changing, as well as legislative requirements to protect the environment and workers' health. To help its customers cope with these changes OLIN has developed special solutions, resins and/or curing agents that will meet the most stringent legislative demands, as well as technical challenges. A brief overview will be given demonstrating the recent developments in wet anti-corrosion paints, floor or anti-corrosion waterborne coatings and low temperature curing or high-performance powder coatings. StatistiqueIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Reversibility of the esterification reaction has limited the use of polyester resins in waterborne coating systems. As with other polyester resin properties, the rate of hydrolysis can be modified by choice of monomer. The objective of this study is to demonstrate changes in hydrolytic stability in waterbone polyesters as a function of change in glycol and diacid composition. In the glycol section of the study, BEPD and HPHP were compared. For the diacid section, adipic acid, isophthalic acid, and 1,4-CHDA were examined. Aqueous dispersions were subjected to storage at both ambient and elevated temperature. Response factors measured over time included molecular weight, pH, appearance, and change in properties of coatings made from the aged dispersions. Results are discussed with reference to accepted hydrolysis hydrolysis rate theories. Results show that inductively stabilized, hydrophobic monomers such as 1,4-CHDA and BEPD produce the most stable waterborne polyesters of the glycols and diacids studied.
