The traditional treatment for such injuries, involving the use of metal implants, has a number of disadvantages, especially for the patient. To support an improved process for patient healing, Evonik has developed three bioresorbable polymer composites with ceramic additives that simulate the human bone. Note de contenu : - Polyesters of superior quality
- New bioresorbable composites
- Processing, properties, and biocompatibility
- Application examples and conclusion
- Picture : Bioresorbable polymers are used, for example, to make screw for orthopedic surgery. The shape and size of the screw depend on the application, e.g. interference screws for cruciate ligament tears, suture anchors or screws for fixing plates

- Fig. 2 : Injection molded tensile tests specimens of bioresorbable Resomer composites with geometry A14 (ISO 20753:2008)
- Fig. 3 : Photomicrograph of connective tissue cells (fibroblasts) after ME (minimum essential medium) extraction : the composites show similarly good cell growth to the negative control
- Table 1 : Properties of selected Resomer polymers. Approximate values. The resorption times of an implant depend on its shape, the polymer used, the application site in the body, and the production process
- Table 2 : Overview of the three newly developed Resomer composites
