A great future is predicted for microalgae: Whether pharmaceutical, chemical, or foodstuffs industry, new application options keep on arising. Photobioreactors are used to cultivated algae on a large scale. During operation of these systems, the devil lies in the detail – as so often. The Algoliner company has developed a reactor made of acrylic glass, which solves many problems. Extrusion is done directly on a field. |
Note de contenu : |
- High-tech between strawberries and asparagus
- Pipes as flexible as a hose
- Aseptic flange instead of dead space
- Pigs keep the pipes clean
- A patented suspension system keeps everything in line
- Capturing CO2 where it is produced
- Fig. 1 : The extruder is installed in a truck trailer, and consists of standard components. However, development of the mold proved to be tricky, Hans Väth explains to Plastics Insights editor Susanne Thyrauer
- Fig. 2 : Hans Väth, founder and CEO of Algoliner, demonstrates how light, and above all flexible, the PMMA pipes are, thanks to their small wall thickness
- Fig. 3 : The injection-molded flanges are also made of PMMA, and are chemically welded to the pipes. The resulting smooth inner surface prevents dead spaces in the system
- Fig. 4 : Every pipe has a profile, which enables the flexible pipes to be suspended, and can even be used to mount LED lighting strips, if necessary
- Fig. 5 : The movable suspension permits the PMMA pipes to deflect sideways to compensate the temperature-related linear expansion |
