Note générale : Bibliogr.

Using a laboratory flexo printing machine, UV-inks containing leafing-type vacuum metallized pigments were printed onto Chromolux paper and primed MultiArt Gloss paper. The time between printing and curing of the ink (dwell time) was varied between the experimental runs. For some samples, hot air was applied onto the uncured UV-ink during the dwell time. The influence of heat (hot air) and dwell time on gloss and the topography of the pigment layer as well as the influence of the substrate was investigated. Roughness and waviness data were obtained using a confocal microscope (Sensofar PLu Neox), gloss measurements were obtained using an IQ-S gloss meter. It was shown that a longer dwell time as well as hot air has a positive influence on the specular gloss measured on the metallic ink printed on Chromolux paper. Also, good correlations could be found between specular gloss, roughness, and waviness, respectively. For primed Multi Art Gloss paper, however, a longer dwell time and hot air can have a negative influence on specular gloss. Also, correlations between roughness, waviness and specular gloss are not as strong as for Chromolux paper. Note de contenu : - Table 1 : Print setting of the laboratory flexo printing machine IGT F1

RugositéIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Paper coating pigment plays an essential role in the achievement of the desired end paper qualities. Different pigment varieties are available for paper coating. Ground calcium carbonate (GCC) is the major one used frequently in coating formulations. Precipitated calcium carbonate (PCC) is gradually gaining importance in paper coating, as it can be prepared in different shapes and sizes. The present study was carried out to determine the influence of PCC pigments with different shapes and sizes on paper properties, and their limitations and advantages when blended with finer grade GCC. PCC pigments of calcite and aragonite crystalline polymorphs having rhombohedral, orthorhombic, and scalenohedral habits were selected for the study. It was observed that the viscosity and water-holding capacity of the coating color was reduced with the introduction of PCC in the coating formulation. The PCC pigments showed greater light scattering, opacity, and smoothness of the coated paper as compared to the GCC pigment. The clustered (rosette) shape of scalenohedral habit calcite PCC results in the greatest light scattering, opacity, and surface strength amongst all PCCs. The aragonite PCC of orthorhombic habit and calcite PCC of rhombohedral habit show an almost similar trend in coated paper properties with the greatest smoothness and paper gloss. In this work, we attached biocidal moieties (Isobornyl methacrylate, IBOMA) to the side chains of the polyacrylic polymer to form the antifouling polymer (AFP). Then, the hydrophilic polysiloxane (HP) was prepared through the polyaddition of polyethylene glycol (PEG) and alkoxysilane onto the main chain of the hydrogen silicone oil. Finally, the hydrophilic fouling release coatings (FRCs) were formed by the reaction or winding of antifouling polymer and HP polymer with an interpenetrating polymer network (IPN) method (IPN-FRCs). The effects of the content of AFP and HP on the adhesion, surface roughness, and antifouling performance of the applied coatings on substrate are thoroughly studied and revealed in details through different analytic techniques. The IPN-FRCs exhibit high adhesion strength to the substrate, and the surface roughness is greatly reduced when submerged in seawater. Furthermore, the IPN-FRCs have high performance against seawater bio-organisms, such as barnacles, during both in-lab and marine field tests when right polymer ratios were chosen. Thus, the novel FRCs may have great potential to be applied for marine vessels in line with their low-cost in raw materials and high performance of the final products.
