Revêtements -- Séchage sous rayonnementIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Many areas of the coatings industry are reaping the benefits of radiation-cured coatings. Reduced energy consumption and waste generation, minimal VOCs and environmental impact, smaller footprint, and faster cure times of radiation-cured coatings (overprint varnishes and inks) are realized extensively in the graphic arts industry. Prefinished wood board products, wood furniture and fixtures, and automotive plastic parts are also often protected with radiation-cured (generally ultraviolet, but in some cases electron-beam) coatings. However, there is very limited use of radiation-cured coatings for industrial metal finishing applications. Several factors ranging from the high cost of equipment to concerns about achieving complete cure for varied geometries to simple lack of awareness have contributed to the situation. Interest is growing, however, and now the industrial metal segment is expanding at a faster rate than the overall market for radiation-cured coatings. Revêtements -- Séchage sous rayonnement ultravioletIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : UV LED curing technology today offers numerous benefits in terms of sustainability, cost, and performance for certain applications—most notably graphics [primers and over print varnishes (OPVs)], wood fillers, fiber optics, electronic display coatings, and some non-graphic web coatings. The advantages being realized in these markets are generating interest from other sectors where UV LED curing technology has not reached the levels needed for commercialization. Interested end users are working closely with UV lamp/equipment manufacturers and coating formulators and their raw material (resin, additive, photoinitiator) suppliers to devise systems that will overcome current limitations and facilitate broader adoption of UV LED curing for industrial wood and other coatings, automotive/transportation, and many other applications. When used as additives at very low levels, they can dramatically improve processing conditions and the final appearance of paints. Silicone crosslinkers are also useful for improving the performance of alkyd and acrylic paints. Protective coatings with silicone-based binders have enhanced properties over traditional epoxy resins. For example, inorganic silicone coatings are used in high-temperature applications because they are more heat stable than organic resins. Choosing the right silicone chemistry for a given application and achieving compatibility with other coating ingredients are both essential for maximizing the benefits afforded by silicone additives, crosslinkers, and resins. Advances in silicone chemistry are helping to overcome the initial hesitance of formulators to use silicones in a growing number of paint and coating applications. UrethanesIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Most flooring whether wood, concrete, tile, or linoleum requires protection from wear, and for many industrial applications, exposure to harsh environments. Coatings play a critical role in imparting that needed level of protection, and today, building owners (residential commercial, industrial) and applicators (OEM floor finishers, professional contractors, maintenance personnel DIY homeowners) are looking for cost-effective, sustainable coatings that are easy to use and provide a durable finish. Resin manufacturers are responding with reasonably priced UV-cure oligomers for both factory and onsite applied coatings, and water-based, low odor, one-component systems for field-applied applications.
