Pigments inorganiques
Pigments métalliquesIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The inhibition efficiency of anticorrosive pigments such as zinc chromate, zinc phosphate, modified zinc phosphate and zinc-free compounds is dependant on their purity, solubility, morphology, types of ions, pigment-polymer interactions, pigment volume concentration, the environment surrounding them and the substrate. The ojective of this paper is to review the knowledge of these pigments and the state-of-the-art in terms of anticorrosive materials; this knowledge can be used to simplify the criteria for selecting anticorrosive pigments for a given application.
It is well-know that the performance of a protective coating can distinctly be affected by incorporation of anticorrosive pigments. Therefore the choice of anticorrosive pigments used in conjunction with suitable binder systems plays a major role when trying to protect metals from corrosion by means of protective coatings. The most important role of anticorrosive pigments in protective coating technology is probably the control of corrosion, even though the degree of corrosion protection of a coating depends not only on the kind on the anticorrosive pigments used. The anticorrosive properties of seven phosphate based pigments, calcium exchange silica, chromate and a ferrite were assessed by electrochemical technoques and formulating solvent borne paints with epoxy and alkyd resins. One of the most important factors besides the pigment used is the resin system selected in order to formulate the coating. The functional pigments determine the role of the paint in the system. It can give enhance properties such as hardness or resistance against abrasion, impermeability and protection from UV radiation. In addition, anticorrosive pigments such as zinc dust play an active role in prevention steel from rusting. Extenders are the other solid components of a paint that are made up of substances that have a different chemical nature, grain-size and shape. Carefully chosen and mixed, they may be used to change a paints consitency for application purpose, rein forcres the film's mechanical and chemical strength and also to increase its hardness, its flexibility and its resistance against abrasion.Note de contenu : - CLASSIFICATION OF ANTICORROSIVE PIGMENTS : Inorganic anticorrosive pigments
