Wet-bright (tannage)Index. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : Since leather is strongly affected by three main environmental parameters — temperature, relative humidity, and UV radiation — this study focuses on the effect that these three factors have on wet-bright leather ageing. Wet-bright leathers were exposed to weathering affects in a climatic chamber to 1) try and Identity the major variables affecting this weathering process; and 2) check for any possible interactions among these variables. Both a multilevel centralized factorial experimental design and an analysis of variance (ANOVA) were used as statistical tools for estimating the effects of the parameters. ZéolitesIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : The leather industry transforms raw hides into leather by mechanical and chemical processes. The main chemical process is the tanning in which the fibers are stabilized and cannot putrefy. To this end, different chemicals can be used that are capable of forming crosslinkages between collagen molecules. In this sense, the most used products are: chromium salts, aluminum, vegetable tannins, synthetics, aldehydes, resins and silicates. In this work, a new biodegradable tanning process based on zeolites was studied in two steps. In the first one, a tanning process for sheepskins and cow hides was developed. In the second one, three types of retanning process to obtain shoe upper, vegetable and leather goods were studied. This new system allows to obtain leather that can decompose naturally in a relative short period of time. Leather tanned with this system shows similar values to the biodegradability of pure collagen.
Specifically, with the retanning system used for shoe upper allows to obtain a 74.4% relative biodegradability compared to pure collagen.Note de contenu : - MATERIALS AND METHODS : Zeolites tanning process - Study of three types of retanning for the new tanning system

Titre : Study of the chrome hexavalent content in commercial chromium salts Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Anna Bacardit, Auteur ; Maria Gonzà lez, Auteur ; Teresa Mir, Auteur ; Ricard March, Auteur ; Jordi Corbera, Auteur Année de publication : 2020 Article en page(s) : p. 14-18 Note générale : Bibliogr. Langues : Anglais (eng) Catégories : Sels de chrome -- Teneur en chrome hexavalent Index. décimale : 675.2 Préparation du cuir naturel. Tannage Résumé : Three forms of chromium are used in industry: Cr(0), Cr(III) and Cr(VI). While chromium metal and Cr(III) ions are not considered toxic, hexavalent chromium is both toxic and carcinogenic.
In the leather sector, chromium (III) is used as a tanning agent; however, under specific conditions, chromium (VI) can be formed in the leather post-production.
Due to this reason, the objective of this work is to determine the possible hexavalent chromium content in four commercial basic chromium salts and the tendency of these salts to originate hexavalent chromium when applied to leather.
The chromium salts studied do not originate Cr(VI) when applied to hide under optimum working conditions. However, it is demonstrated that the appearance of chromium (VI) may be due to bad practices during the tanning and/or post-tanning processes.Note de contenu : - Fig. 1 : Reaction between the crhome complexes and ionized carboxyl groups in the side chains of the collagen
