Wood is a naturally occuring renewable raw material for construction and decoration, offering economic, technical and environmental advantages (in particular biodegradability) over competitive materials such as plastics and metal. However, wood is an organic substance, both anisotropic and hygroscopic, and will degrade when exposed. |
