In developing countries, there is now a growing trend in the use of advanced composite materials (ACM) in several fields including prosthetic sockets due to their strength-to-weight ratio and biocompatibility. The research described in this paper aims at selecting the most appropriate advanced composite material for a prosthetic arm socket. This research will also provide additional data through tensile and density tests according to the ASTM standards for each material alternative. Previous research showed that carbon Kevlar has the highest strength among other alter¬natives (207.18 x 106 N/m2) and an adequately low density (1248.85 ± 0.098 kg/m3). Thus, it was selected as the most appropriate material because of its best performance value compared to other alternatives. |
