A novel feature-resolved colour measurement procedure has been developed which can be used to predict changes in the overall appearance, not just the average colour, as the wood ages. The effect of maintenance coatings was successfully predicted. Note de contenu : - AIMS and principles of the colour prediction model
- How the discolouration model is created
- How feature-resolved colour measurement is performed
- Modelling of the wood surface discolouration
- Improving the calculation
- ?x(t), ?z(t)= A1 . exp(-k1.t) + A2 . exp(-k2 . t) + yO (1)
- How maintenance coatings affect perceived colour
- Extending the colour model with new data
- Current limitations and outlook
- FIGURES : 1. Colour measurement of wood surfaces. Structural features such as annual rings are usually much smaller thant the aperture size of a conventional spectrophotometer - 2. Rendered images of a transprently coated larch wood board at different exposure times : calculation of the colour based on values obtained during a xenon arc exposure trial - 3. Novel colour measurement procedure to otbain feature-resolved colour values : step 1 : generating transformation matrices ; step 2 : colour measurement at defined spots and subsequent application of transformation matrices on these spots - 4. Discolouration of transparetnly and yellow coated larch and spruce wood samples during a xenon arc exposure trial. The yellow coating was applied with 2-, 3- and 4-layers (i.e., increasing dry film thickness) - 5. Differences in discouloration of the early- and late wood for transparency and yellow coated larch wood samples - 6.
