Résumé : |
Additives are essential for durable, easy-to-apply coatings Water-borne architectural and DIY coatings usually require additives such as defoamers, rheology modifiers, dispersing agents and preservatives. These mut be compliant, safe, eco-friendly and efficient at low dosage. Here, we present a new all-round dispersant and core-shell thickener for formulating advanced, durable, biocide-free paints. |
Note de contenu : |
- The return of silicate paints
- Accelerated aging in alkaline conditions
- Pivotal role of pigment dispersants & paint stabilisers
- Reduced paint complexity
- Superior colour development and rub-out
- Rheology modifiers : essential for in-can stability
- Better hydrolytic stability and workability
- The right defoamer - Robust and long-lasting
- Table 1 : Simplified silicate-based test formulation for chiecking additive stability under accelerated conditions (pH approx. 11.5)
- Table 2 : Actual real silicate paint formulation used (<5 % organic content). The investigated additives are marked in grey
- Table 3 : Defoamer investigation in the quick test formulation after storage for seven days at 60°C. All defoamers were tested at two pH levels. The efficiency/persistency was evaluated by applying an air sparge test and roller applicationon PVC charts |
