Basic concepts of diffraction grating theory, together with principles of platelet-like pigments, where taken into consideration when creating of this new family of pigments. The optical properties of these pigments are based on optical interference by diffraction instead of thin film optical interference used on traditional optical variable pigments. By controlling the physical dimensions and surface microstructure, diffractive pigment generates the appearance of multiple, bright rainbow-producing prisms moving over a liquid silver colour. The effect is pleasing, elegant and exhibits dramatic visual appeal that is unique, durable and easy to incorporate.
