The storage and corresponding evolution of the sludge has not yet focalized the attention of the scientific community. Apart from developing knowledge of the ecology and function of the microbial community in anaerobic digestion processes, it is necessary to control this biological process. The manipulation of strict anaerobic microorganisms is the limiting factor in their isolation due to their high sensitivity to oxygen; therefore, cultivation under anaerobic conditions is essential. This work presents an evaluation of biogas generation and quality. In addition, microbial biodegradation is carried out in bench bioreactors containing two main solid wastes from tanneries: wet-blue shavings and sludge from a tannery wastewater treatment plant (WWTP). We analyzed two storage conditions of the sludge: storage under ambient conditions and under refrigeration. Sludge kept at ambient conditions showed a significantly higher methane production; methane was only detected in vials containing high concentrations of microorganisms. The manipulation of microorganisms did not interrupt biodegradation. The isolation technique with vials proved to be appropriate for the quantification of methanogenic microorganisms in biodegradation tests, although it was not fully elucidated for their isolation. In this work the films are prepared in Petri dishes and are tested in pure form, not applied over a leather surface. In this context, this paper evaluates films prepared with commercial polymeric resins polyurethanes and polyacrylates measuring the properties tensile strength resistance, elongation at break and toughness, the influence of the addition of pigments and its stability to water or organic solvent. The addition of pigments decreased the mechanical resistance for acrylic and polyurethane resins : The stability of the films with respect to water and solvents has shown that water soluble solvent components increased by the presence of pigment and the water absorption is higher and the solvent is lower in pigmented films to acrylates and polyurethanes. Tannage -- DéchetsIndex. décimale : 675.2 Préparation du cuir naturel. Tannage Résumé : Large amounts of shavings and sludge are generated from wastewater treatment plants of tanneries and are of great concern since their must common destination is their disposal in landfills. ln tanning processes chromium salts are the main tanning agents used. The tannery solid residues characteristics suggest that anaerobic digestion is a potential treatment alternative. Therefore this study aimed to analyze the influence of the presence of chromium in the co-digestion of these two leather industry solid residues of major concern both before and after the tanning stage. The presence of chromium in sludge proved to be more suitable than its absence, producing more biogas — 30.34mI/g of VSS (volatile suspended solids) on average — and a greater reduction of organic load 67.7% on average. This may be due to the low concentration of chromium in essays (up to 15mg/L.) being appropriate for rnany enzymes and co-enzymes in addition to the possible toxicity of the reagents used in the beamhouse process, such as acids and bases, which inhibited the final steps of the anaerobic digestion. The presence of chromium in shavings did not show significant influence probably due to their small proportion in essays. Note de contenu : - Table 1. Tannage -- DéchetsIndex. décimale : 675.2 Préparation du cuir naturel. Tannage Résumé : Tanneries' solid waste is usually disposed of in landfills where uncontrolled conditions that cause environmental problems such as gas emissions and leachate leak to groundwater. This study aimed to evaluate the mass reduction of tanneries solid waste treated by biodegradation. The essays were prepared in bench bioreactors where the two main tannery solid wastes were added sludge from tannery wastewater treatment plant and wet-blue leather shaving. Biogas production was monitored. The solid waste mass was measured along biodegradation through destructive testing. As results, the mass reduction increased with the degradation lime. The maximum mass reduction was practically already reached the first opening (15th day), arriving to 19.74%, slightly below the last measure, which achieved 21.76% reduction.
