Résumé : |
Formaldehyde is an important chemical, used widely within the industry for more than a century to manufacture building materials and household items. Numerous resins have been developed, including urea-formaldehyde, phenol-formaldehyde and melamine-formaldehyde, which offer a wide range of beneficial properties at low cost and are, thus, used ubiquitously throughout the globe.
Subsequently, it was determined that some of these resins can break down, leading to elevated formaldehyde emissions. Sources other than resins include combustion, textiles, insulation, cleaning products and wood itself. It has been determined that even human breath contains 3-5ppbV per exhale. Significant sources for elevated levels within interior spaces are composite wood products made with adhesives that contain urea formaldehyde resin. |
