Résumé : |
A multifunctional measuring unit combines rheological characterization with dynamic mechanical analysis. This enables extensive material characterizations to be carried out on a single instrument. Using the example of additive manufacturing of PEEK by fused deposition modeling (FDM), the material characterization of filament, melt, and final component is demonstrated. |
Note de contenu : |
- Use of rheometers to characterize PEEK
- Rheological measurement of the PEEK melt
- DMA measurement of the additive manufactured PEEK bars
- Figure : Plate-plate configuration (25 mm diameter) for rheological measurement of a polymer melt on the MCR 702 MultiDrive rheometer with a convection oven (CTD 600 MultiDrive Ready)
- Fig. 1 : Frequency sweep measurements of a PEEK melt. At +380 °C, the PEEK melt has a viscosity some 30 % lower than at +350 °C and is therefore better suited for FDM
- Fig. 2 : Solid rectangular fixture or SRF for temperature-dependent dynamic mechanical analysis of additive manufactured PEEK bars on the MCR 702 MultiDrive rheometer with a convection oven (CTD 600 MultiDrive Ready)
- Fig. 3 : Temperature-dependent DMA measurements of an FDM-processed PEEK filament. The shear modulus G is shown in red and the tensile modulus E in green ; measurement in tension is represented by the solid lines and in torsion by the dotted lines
- Fig. 4 : The glass transition temperature of PEEK according to ISO 11357 can be directly calculated with the aid of the software |
