The viscoelastic properties of these films were evaluated through dynamic mechanical and thermal analyzer (OMTA).The mechanical film properties such as tensile strength, adhesion strength and hardness were measured and related to chemical composition and cohesion of the hard segment. The degree of phase mixing was found to be dependent on the synthetic ingredient structure. Water vapor transmission measurements were carried out to find out and correlate permeability with structures. The results indicate that the combined analysis of the hard segment cohesion helps in correlating the structure to property relationship. No less than 30% of the quantity of titanium dioxide normally used was replaced with materials of differing particle sizes and particle-size distribution widths. High-quality standard materials act as genuine extenders and do not modify the properties of the paint system in any way. Finer-particled products make a positive contribution to hiding power, gloss and mechanical properties. An extra functionality is added to the system in this context, depending on particle size, but does have its practical limitations, with respect to rheological characteristics.
