This paper discusses some of the lectures and posters given at the congress and suggests an alternative process for the 21st century. This will include controlled drying, gaseous pickling, totally synthetic tannages or chromium (III) tannages with its efficacy by rare earth elements, and power ultrasound to speed up processing times. Transfert d'humiditéIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : This paper deals with the transfer of heat and moisture in a pile of leathers with impermeable boundaries, which is caused by a jump in temperature at the boundaries. It is proved mathematically that changes in temperature take place in two "waves", with diffusion coefficients derived using the Henry theory of the simultaneous diffusion in porous sorbing materials, although the resulting relationships may be obtained only by use of a more common procedure under even more common assumptions than Henry's method. The results are compared with the experimental and theoretical data of Mitton and Dowsett obtained by use of an approximate solution with which they provide a good agreement. In conclusion, some important practical consequences of both the process and mathematical theory are mentioned. Note de contenu : - Introduction

The interiors of high-quality cars are characterised by having a sophisticated design, sometimes minimalist, but very demanding. The seats of an automobile are important to secure comfort and safety to the driver and other passengers. Not only are colour, feel and the overall aesthetic of the seat important, but equally so is the comfort. If the seats fail, the travel experience can be unpleasant.
An improper seat leads to greater fatigue and back pain. Leather is the material preferred for upholstering the interior of high-quality cars and, it being a natural product, faces demanding challenges to adapt it to the range that each automotive terminal applies. Often, companies engaged in cutting, sewing and assembling car-seat covers raise claims against leather suppliers because of defects such as :
- wrinkles that, when the cover is manufactured for the seat or the headrest, appear on some identical parts but not on others
- parts that, when sewn, stretch and deform, not returning to their original size or aspect
- covers of which the pieces are cut from the same lot of leather and when placed on the seat, show unwanted wrinkles or look distorted.
Each automotive terminal issues technical specification of which the purpose is to ensure the consistent quality of the leather to be processed, while considering the influence of physical, chemical and organoleptic properties during the stages of manufacture This article describes the relationship between the softness of the leather, measured by different methods and directionality of physical properties, and the influence they have to obtain a defect-free product.Note de contenu : - Leather as the material of choice

Rendement en surfaceIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : The main oxygen for a tannery is achieving enhanced spread (area yield) of the finished leather. Whatever technological marvels we may exhibit; all will be levelled out, if, we cannot achieve the right spread/yield in the manufacturing process. Simply because of the reasons that yield influences (1) costing and (2) the revenue to the factory since, leather (except sole/insole) is sold on the basis of area. So, the higher the area per kg of wet-salted hides and skins; the higher is the sale value.
Now this is the most crucial blood flow, often neglected or of little concern to tanners. My tannery experience and several experiments on this factor done at the Bata India Ltd., under my mentor Dr. Zdenek Kotasek, nearly 40 years ago, compelled me to sum up very briefly the aspects of how and what influences the spread/yield.
There is no single panacea for obtaining the right spread/area yield of leather, several chemical and physical factors are obviously related to it. Spread needs to be built in step-by-step. We shall delve into them one after another.En ligne : https://drive.google.com/file/d/1I4x8ThKbHEx7WoTe2ePayX1JZZ6U4bHt/view?usp=drive [...] Format de la ressource électronique : Permalink : https://e-campus.itech.fr/pmb/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=35313
