Vapeur d'eauIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : The study concerns testing of selected properties of leather produced in Poland particularly properties which are important for comfort. Shoe leathers were tested mainly for water vapour permeability and softness. Water vapour permeability tests were performed according to the new method which uses equipment made by the Radwag company (the idea was invented by the University of Technology and Humanities (UTH) in Radom, Poland), and which enables fast measurement in conditions similar to those under which the leather is used. In total, a range made by 8 Polish tanneries were tested. The results of the study showed that the majority of selections of leather produced in Poland is of very good quality. The water vapour permeability of the leathers ranged from 380mg/10 cm2/24h to 4930 mg/10cm2/24h (according to the method of UTH Radom). The relationship between softness and water vapour permeability was investigated. Cuirs et peaux -- Effets de la températureIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : This research sought to establish the actual temperatures attained by cross-country ski boots when they are evaluated under simulated conditions of use in a cold room. In tests conducted between +30° and -30°F, thermocouple readings in four different boot locations established temperature gradients between the boots and the test environment. The gradients between the vamp and the test environment after 40 min testing (average of + 10°F) were lower than those between the sole and the test environment (average of + 23°F). Readings from two other thermocouples placed inside the boots, one over the wearer's instep and one under the ball of his foot, showed much higher and more variable temperature gradients with the environment. At the subzero testing temperatures, the originally intended 2-hr tests were terminated after 40 min as the instep temperatures dropped below 50°F, causing the test subjects great discomfort. Nonylphenol éthoxylates
Produits chimiques -- Suppression ou remplacementIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : Alkylphenols (APs) are chemical compounds used mainly to manufacture alkylphenol ethoxylates (APEs); APEs have been used for more than 50 years and are important to a number of industrial processes. This includes pulp and paper, textiles, coatings, agricultural pesticides, lube oils, fuels, metals, plastics, and leather. The industrial applications comprises 55% of the total APE market. Other uses are mostly in industrial, institutional, and household cleaning products. Note de contenu : - The chemistry of nonphenol ethoxylates

Langues : Américain (ame) Index. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : A study was made in retrospect on the calving performance of 119 Hereford cattle in relation to the presence or absence of th vertical fiber hide defect or an intermediate form of this condition. No difference of dystocias (calving problems) or stillbirths. The analysis of more detailed records obtained from 91 of these animals when they first entered the breeding herd also failed to reveal any significant differences among groups in the overall level of fertility. These results are contrasted with those obtained by others who have studied the problem.
