Sol-gel, ProcédéIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : Synthesis of silica sol-gel nanoparticles was carried out by the Stober’s process and the resulting products were used in leather finishing mixtures as a coating ingredient. The physical and chemical properties of the synthesized sol-gel nanoparticles were characterized by TEM, FE-SEM, EDAX, FT-IR, TGA and XRD. The surface morphology of the nanoparticle coated leathers were evaluated by AFM. The silica sol-gel nanoparticles-coated leather exhibited improved water spotting resistance, water vapor permeability, and increased adhesion values. Therefore, a conventional system of leather finishing has been upgraded by using silica sol-gel nanoparticles, especially in the base coat application.

Amino-terminated hyperbranched polymer (HBPN) was used to modify the BD to prepare hyperbranched polymer modified BD (HBPN-B). The molecular weight of HBPN was analysed by GPC and FTIR, SEM-EDS and BET analysis were employed to characterise the structure of the HBPN-B. The BET specific surface area of HBPN-B was 7.128m2.g-1. The EDS analysis results show that after modification, the N content of BD increased from 21.23% to 24.47%. HBPN-B was then used in the adsorption of dye from wastewater. The influences of reaction conditions on the adsorption properties of HBPN-B towards acid fuchsin were studied and the adsorption kinetic and isotherm were researched. The removal rate of acid fuchsin by HBPN-B increased with the increase of pH, the removal rate reached the maximum at pH2.5. Electrostatic attraction was the chief adsorption mechanism. The removal rate increased with the increase of HBPN-B dosage and temperature. The adsorption process was in conformity with pseudo-second order kinetic and Langmuir adsorption isotherm model adsorption. ZincIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : In this study, zinc oxide nano-particles known to have antibacterial properties were emulsified with different chain length paraffins to be used as fatliquoring agents. The research was carried out on chrome tanned upholstery leathers. Different proportions of nano zinc oxide were studied in the paraffin emulsions. The prepared emulsions were investigated underneath a Keyence VHX-1000 digital microscope. The average particle size of the emulsions was measured. After the emulsification process, the leathers were finished in accordance with the industrial upholstery recipe. The emulsions were applied to leather in the fatliquoring process. Antibacterial activities of the finished leather were evaluated according to ASTM Standard E 2149-01, and the results showed significant bacterial reduction on the treated leathers. The impacts of the fatliquoring agents utilized in the research on light fastness were also inspected by using an ATLAS-XENOTEST ALPHA+ test instrument. Light fastness values of treated leathers indicated that nano zinc oxide particles provided the UV absorbing property on the collagen fibers.
