Cuirs et peaux -- FoulonnageIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : The purpose of dry milling is principally to restore the softness and suppleness to leather alter drying or surface finishing operations. This is achieved simply by tumbling the pack of leather for several hours in a drum, normally equipped with plain internai shelves. The repeated tumbling and flexing of the leather frees loose fibres and dust from the flesh side. Early milling drums were normally wooden, sometimes with numerous holes drilled in the circumference to allow the dust to escape, and sometimes of slatted construction, to achieve the same end. The release of the dry dust around the drum made for a very dirty working area, and was a considerable fire risk. Simple dust extraction systems were developed, with an external fan drawing dust-laden air through a hollow axle and into a separation cyclone for collection. Wooden drum drives were normally by ring gear and pinion, and horribly noisy. Re-humidification of the leather was sometimes carried out by injecting low pressure steam via a hollow axle, but this was a hit-or-miss affair, and could often result in irregular wet patches on the leather. So-called "stuffing" drums (Figure 1) were used with some types of leathers, with hot air blown through the hollow axles to aid the re-impregnation of the leather with oils and greases as it was tumbled in the drum. Wet-blue (tannage)Peau tannée au chrome (le chrome donne une couleur bleue)Index. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : The chemical fixation of acrylate and methacrylate monomers to wet-blue sheepskins and goatskins in the presence of redox, polymerisation initiators has been investigated. In the presence of such monomers, the concurrent application of an olefinically unsaturated dyestuff and a colourless vinylic monomer gives coloured leathers having a partially fatliquored handle. The effect of several process variables on the fixation of the polymer by the leather are discussed. Note de contenu : - SITE OF GRAFTING

Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : A transamidification reaction was utilised to get low molecular weight peptides from waste skin trimmings and the transamidified peptides were subsequently treated with adipic acid and neutralised with aqueous ammonia which resulted in alkylamide polypeptides. The results of IR spectroscopyindicated that N-alkylamide polypeptides were actually formed. The thermogravimetric analysis has been done and it has been found that the transamidified protein is more stable than casein. The mechanical properties of the film formed using the transamidified polypeptides indicated that it possesses superior properties to those of casein film. The physical properties of leathers finished with transamidified polypeptides are comparable with those finished with casein and both are satisfactory. However, the wet rub fastness of leathers finished with transamidified polypeptide is slightly inferior to that of casein finished leathers. Tests d'efficacité
Wet-blue (tannage)Peau tannée au chrome (le chrome donne une couleur bleue)Index. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : Mould protection of wet-blue continues to be a major cost and concern to tanners. There is a need for more effective fungicides with low human and fish toxicity and minimum environmental impact.
The advantages and disadvantages of currently used fungicides are reviewed. There are problems associated with reduced effectiveness of some fungicides in the presence of sulfide, bisulfite, oxidising agents or grease.
Systems used to overcome these problems are compared. Also, fungicides which can control difficult moulds, such as Cladosporium, are discussed.
Standard methods for testing fungicidal efficacy are compared with tropical chamber methods. Results of both laboratory and industrial trials comparing a range of fungicides show the benefits of some combinations.Note de contenu : - Introduction : Active components in currently used wet-blue fungicides
