The idea that the colour changing step could be omitted is an interesting one. There will always be a natural colour associated with the type of animal pelt used. The material will usually be an off-white grey colour that can have the presence of melanin pigments, which are usually the same colour as the hair colour that is present above them ; when the leather had its hair.
The beamhouse processes, most notably the pickling step, will usually remove the natural colour, but a tanner may include a deliberate bleaching step that completely obliterates the pigmentation, such as oxidative bleaching of birds and reptiles.Note de contenu : - Fig. 1 : Red, drum dyed, chromium-tanned leather, undyed brown vegetable tannage (veg tan) leather, and undyed grey/blue chromium tanned leather (clokwise)

Index. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : The one thing that a leather product maker does not want to hear from its customers is dissatisfaction with its products or services. Hexamétaphosphate de sodium
Sels d'ammoniumIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : The use of ammonium salt in the deliming process is the primary reason for high ammonia nitrogen content in tannery wastewater. To reduce ammonia nitrogen pollution, a composite of sodium hexametaphosphate (SHMP) and boric acid (BA) was employed for non-ammonia deliming. The synergistic effect of SHMP and BA on deliming of limed cattle hide was investigated by analyzing the pH of deliming liquor, the extent of removal of calcium in pelt and the concentration of total nitrogen (TN) in the effluent. The experimental results indicated that the lowest pH of float during SHMP and BA deliming process was 7.08 and the concentration of hydroxyproline in the deliming liquor was lower than that of ammonia sulfate deliming, which suggest that deliming by SHMP and BA can reduce the damage of pelts. The extent of calcium removal from pelts delimed by using 3 % SHMP and 1 % BA was comparable to that of the pelts delimed with 3.5 % ammonium sulfate. FESEM images and EDS analysis indicated that the deliming by SHMP and BA produced clearer grain with less calcium salts. Compared with ammonium sulfate deliming, TN concentration in SHMP and BA deliming float was reduced by 85 %. MesureIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : Many of the comfort related properties of leather are generally assessed subjectively by experience sorters. Fluffiness is one such comfort related property of leather which not only gives volume to the leather, but provides insulation because of entrapped air. The testing method reported in this paper is a new concept in the objective measurement of the fluffiness of leather which is non-destructive in nature and should be valuable to the leather industry.
