Résumé : |
Thermochromic pigments changes colour with change in temperature. The change in colour is because of change in crystal structure or change in molecular structure of the material, because of which the material absorbs or emits light of different wavelength. Thermochromic pigments are based on liquid crystal material, leuco dyes and inorganic materials. Liquid crystal based materials shows change in colour with temperature because of change in crystal structure with temperature. Leuco dyes based material changes molecular structure with temperature. Both liquid crystal material and leuco dyes are micro encapsulated. Inorganic materials show change in colour with temperature because of change in electronic porperties of compound. Liquid crystal based pigment are used in precision applications, as their responses can be engineered to accurate temperatures, but their color range is limited by their principle of operation. Leuco dyes based thermochromic materials have less accurate temperature response than liquid crystals. Thermochromic pigments find applications in paints, plastics, inks, fabric. |
