Langues : Américain (ame) Index. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : Microporous membranes are investigated as a mean to improve the quality and repeatability of the VARTM (Vacuum Assisted Resin Transfert Molding) process for affordable high performance composites applications. The goal of this paper is to introduce the membrane concept and show how it can improve process repeatability. This paper will first focus on two important sources of variability routinely encountered in VARTM : thickness gradients and the presence of dry-spots. General information about the membrane is provided and the benefits and requirements when used in VARTM are described. Results from membrane characterization studies and exploratory infusion experiments show potential of membrane based processing to reduce variability.
