Résumé : |
In order to achieve optimal component properties with the use of fiber-reinforced plastics, both the fiber length and the homogeneity of the fiber distribution are decisive criteria. As the fibers tend to form clusters as the length increases, injection molding solutions are required which also ensure homogeneous distribution in such cases. |
Note de contenu : |
- Agglomerates-Why must they be avoided ?
- Measurement of homogeneity
- Fiber agglomerates reflected in the mechanical property patterns
- FIGURES : 1. a) Raw materials for the production of fiber-reinforced injection molded parts. b) Undispersed fiber agglomerates in the component are caused by unsuitable systems technology - 2. Micrograph through a fiber agglomerate in a glass-fiber-reinforced specimen - 3. With this mesurement setup the transmitted light images of the specimens positioned between orthogonally twisted polarization fibers are made - 4. By binarization (converting dark and light image components into black and white elements) agglomerate areas can be evaluated - 5. Homogeneity and mechanical property patterns of long-fiber-reinforced plastic components with the use of different mixing zone type, with regard to the values of the natural mixing zone. It becomes clear that the reduction of the agglomerate proportion leads to significant improvement of tensile strength and the modulus of elasticity by means of shearing mixing geometry |
