VDI-K vehicle plastics in automotive conference 2008 - Which potentials remain to be exploited by automakers in order to reduce weight even further – and therefore fuel and CO2? LEDs in headlamps, plastic/metal hybrid parts in the vehicle body or plastic solutions in the powertrain are just some of the examples that were presented at the conference. For the first time, a torque strut made of plastic – instead of the usual steel or aluminum – restrains the engine/gearbox assembly in the vehicle, and weighs about 35 % less. |
