Polyéther amineIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Polyethermonoamines can aid dispersion and stabilisation of pigments in ink to achieve good colour strength, gloss transparency and transfer efficiency, writes by the author.
In an ink formulation the pigment must be dispersed and stabilised to achieve good colour strength, gloss, transparency, and transfer efficiency. Stable, concentrated dispersions with small particles and narrow particle size distribution potentially can lead to higher gloss and colour strength per unit mass of pigment. The push towards water-based formulations and increasing pigment loading underline the needs for good dispersion and stabilisation properties.
In this study, the uses of polyether amines (PEAs) as dispersants for carbon black as well as their physicochemical properties were studied systematically. A series of polyether amines was prepared by varying the molecular weight and the ethylene oxide/propylene oxide ratio.
By understanding the effect of each portion of the molecule on the physical properties and performance, new dispersants can be developed. A variety of different techniques have been used in this study to characterise these properties.
Equilibrium surface tension and solution depletion methods were used to determine the absorptions at the air-water interface and carbon black-water interface, respectively. Dynamic interfacial tension measurements have been made using mineral oil as a dispersed phase. Contact angles of water on carbon on carbon black dispersions were measured to provide information about wettability. The performance of these materials in a carbon black ink formulation, including rheology, stability, and colour transfer efficiency, was also studies.Note de contenu : - Experimental

Titre : Threat from the Far East Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Peter Rulten, Auteur Année de publication : 2005 Article en page(s) : p. 59-62 Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The author explains what Western European pigment manufacturers are doing to compete with low cost suppliers from the Far East.
In recent years the organic pigment business has witnessed increasing impact from the emergence and growth of 'Low Cost' manufacturers mainly from India and China. Initially, the Indian and Chinese suppliers offered only classical pigments but now are expanding their product offerings to include such pigments as Quinacridone, DDP and Oxide Coated Micas.
The major organic pigment producers have responded to this new competition in a variety of ways to maintain market share and profitability. They all now manufacture on a global basis through acquisitions and joint ventures to take advantage of lower cost production opportunities. The market has also seen an increase in customer partnerships and joint development projects along with increased technical and customer service.
One major advantage that the major organic producers have over low cost suppliers is significantly better research and product development ressources. This paper describes some of the recent advances and developments from Sun Chemical's Performance Pigments business unit.Note de contenu : - New developments in PY139 technology
