Résumé : |
Polypropylene - Visible components in vehicle engine rooms increasingly have to satisfy not just technical requirements, but design expectations, too. An engine cover thus has to have an attractive and distinctive surface. A series part by Volkswagen demonstrates that this is possible not only with polyamide, but with glass-fiber-reinforced polypropylene as well. |
Note de contenu : |
- Demands on the plastic
- Replacing polyamide reliably
- The surface of designer engine covers
- Experimental investigation of moldability by injection molding
- Less energy during processing
- FIGURES : 1. REM images of traditional glass-fiber-reinforced PP compounds exhibit rough and irregular surfaces due to protruding fibers. Since engine coves are now considered visible parts, this has to be avoided - 2. The designer engine cover from a not yet optimized PP compound in delivery condition exhibits clear polymer degradation after 500h thermal aging
- TABLES : 1. Results before and after thermal aging of the proposed PP-GF Hostacom ERG 393F Black. The mechanical properties may lie below those of the series material, but are adequate for the case of application - 2. Comparative processing parameters for polyamide and thenewly developed PP-GF type. Among other things, injection pressure, locking force and tempering indicate reduced energy consumption during production |
