Large-scale production and low-cost photocatalyst C3N4-TiO2(B) can be perfectly compounded with ABSP, realizing the possibility of engineering application. SEM and AFM analysis showed that the C3N4-TiO2(B) particles were firmly embedded in the coating, but serious agglomeration appeared when the content of the photocatalyst exceeds 7 wt%. The hydrophilic nanoparticles can accelerate the hydrolysis and adjust the self-polishing rates of the polymer matrix to repel bacteria and algae. When the content of C3N4-TiO2(B) was in the range of 5–7 wt%, the CTNCs displayed better resistance to Nitzschia closterium, Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli than the coating containing pure C3N4, and the anti-bacterial rates towards S. aureus and E. coli can reach 99.72% and 98.96%. Indoor air quality, including that of dwellings, has become a question of environmental health in the same way as has happened with control of outdoor air quality and exposure at work. The adverse effects due to poor air quality in closed spaces affect a considerable number of people, since it has been shown that urban dwellers spend between 58 and 78% of their time in an indoor environment which is contaminated and so there is an urgent need to improvise upon the indoor air and thus enhance its quality.
ln the following review, various advancements in coating industry to improve interior air quality are discussed in detail. The paper describes about the major contaminants of the indoor air pollution and how they affect the environment adversely. What are VOCs and how their emissions can be minimised to improve the interior air quality is also discussed. In addition to reduction of the emissions of VOCs special attention is paid to the technological advancennents such as formaldehyde abatement technology, encapsulation technology, ionic paint additive technology, anti-bacterial coatings, smoke and odor elimination coatings, air flow waterbome coatings, photocatalyst coating that remove and nninimize the already present indoorair contaminants and improve the interior air quality.Note de contenu : - Interior air quality

Sol-gel, ProcédéIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : TiO2 and Pd-modified TiO2 photocatalysts were prepared by sol–gel method. X-ray diffraction (XRD) data showed that the presence of Pd in TiO2 catalyst decreases the crystalline size of TiO2 and stabilizes anatase phase. The study of the photocatalytic activity of the films via Linear Sweep Voltametry (LSV) plots and antibacterial test against Escherichia coli ATCC 25922—a gram negative bacterium—showed that Pd increases the photocatalytic activity of the coatings. Besides, the sequence of layer deposition (TiO2 and Pd-modified TiO2) influences the photocatalytic properties. In other words, more photocatalytic activity is obtained when Pd-modified layer is deposited first. Tannage Résumé : Treatment of tannery wastewater is a challenging task because of its complex components, deep colour and high concentration of suspended solids. This study aims to develop a treatment system that can effectively reduce the pollutants in tannery wastewater to an environmentally acceptable level. Manganese (Mn)-doped mesoporous titanium dioxide (T102) was successfully synthesized via a sol-gel method using butyl titanate as a precursor and surfactant P123 as a template. When the dosage of Mn in the mesoporous Ti02 was 0.4%, the degradation rate of organic pollutants was nearly 90% after 8 hours of treatment with metal halide. The as-prepared products showed excellent photocatalytic activity even sunlight was used as an illuminant. The degradation rate of organic pollutants reached 87.5% when sunlight was used for excitation. Results of this study can be used as a reference in purifying various types of industrial wastewater.
