(Wikipedia)

Revêtements -- Propriétés thermiquesIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : In this article, the new zinc phthalocyanine (ZnPc)-based poly(vinyl alcohol)s (PVA-Pcs) are synthesized by copper(I)-catalyzed azide-alkyne cycloaddition click reaction (CuAAC) between azide side chain functionalized PVA (PVA-N3) and alkyne substituted ZnPc (Pc-Al), and characterized. The structure of PVA-Pcs and their intermediates are determined by a combination of Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) and proton nuclear magnetic resonance (1H-NMR) spectroscopies. On the other hand, the effect of Pc-Al loading by mole (PVA-N3:Pc-Al = 10:1 and 10:2) on the wettability, thermal and antibacterial properties of achieved final products is investigated, utilizing water contact angle (WCA) measurements, thermogravimetric (TGA) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) analyses, and antibacterial activity tests, respectively. Based on the WCA, TGA, and DSC analyses of PVA-Pcs, it is found that utilizing a higher loading of Pc-Al in the CuAAC reaction medium enhances the WCA and thermal properties of resulted products. Furthermore, the antibacterial activity tests against both Gram negative bacteria (Escherichia coli and Salmonella typhimurium) and Gram positive bacteria (Staphylococcus aureus and Listeria monocytogenes) revealed the higher inhibition effect of PVA-Pcs compared to neat PVA, some prevalent antibiotics and control samples. Thus, PVA-Pcs are promising materials that can be used in different application areas requiring lower wettability and higher thermal and antibacterial properties. Note de contenu : - Materials

ThiolsIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) films were surface-modified according to microwave plasma activation allowing for dithiol functions grafting (1,6-hexanedithiol) in order to fabricate self-assembled photogenerated silver nanoparticles monolayers. The present study was carried out in constant discharge power conditions and the impact of the plasma treatment on PET wettability properties were reported. PET material modifications were characterized at various stages of the process : plasma activation, dithiol functionalization, and nanosilver grafting according to several experimental techniques : water contact angle measurements and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The surface topography was studied by atomic force microscopy (AFM). Finally, antibacterial properties of PET material including silver nanoparticles were evaluated to determine the probability to reduce the surface bacterial adhesion of Staphylococcus aureus strain selected as pathogenic bacteria model. Surface grafted with silver nanoparticles was found to be particularly reactive and led to an inhibition of S. aureus adhesion around 96.2% in comparison with the unmodified PET material. Revêtements multicouchesIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Magnesium alloy (MgA) was widely used in biomedical field owing to its good biocompatibility and degradability. The surface of MgA was usually modified to improve its corrosion resistance, biocompatibility, and biological properties. Herein, we employed a layer-by-layer assembly technique to assemble both polyanionic and polycationic electrolytes onto the microarc oxidation-treated MgA surface to yield MgA-MgO-PEI-[Ge(HANPs)/Lzm]50, where the gelatin-conjugated hydroxyapatite nanoparticles [Ge(HANPs)] are the polyanionic electrolyte, lysozyme (Lzm) is the polycationic electrolyte, and polyethyleneimine (PEI) is the transition layer. The morphology and chemical composition of MgA-MgO-PEI-[Ge(HANPs)/Lzm]50 were characterized by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, indicating that [Ge(HANPs)/Lzm]50 were successfully fabricated on the surface of MgA-MgO. The surface of MgA-MgO-PEI-[Ge(HANPs)/Lzm]50 exhibited good hydrophilicity as evidenced by the low water contact angle of 24.5°. Excellent corrosion resistance of MgA-MgO-PEI-[Ge(HANPs)/Lzm]50 was obtained since it can decrease about four orders of magnitude of corrosive current (Icorr) compared to pristine MgA. The biological assay for MgA-MgO-PEI-[Ge(HANPs)/Lzm]50 showed good antiplatelet adhesion and excellent antibacterial activities against both E. coli and S. aureus. Peaux brutes -- TrempeIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : An increasing amount of research work has been directed to limiting the use of synthetic biocides for preventing microorganism formation on finished leather, and the development of more suitable substitute products. Much of this work has been directed towards the protective effects of natural bioactive materials. The known antibacterial impact of storax against a variety of bacteria has now put this technology on the leather industry research agenda. In the present study, Sýðla (Liquidambar orientalis Mill.var orientalis) storax was investigated for antibacterial activity during the soaking float. In this investigation, 1% , 2%, 5% of storax and 1% essential oil of Origanum onites mixed with the storax were tested for their antimicrobial activity in parallel with 50 % organosulfur compound as commercial bactericides commonly used in the leather. The results showed that storax has an antibacterial effect in soaking with increasing concentrating rates and when it is mixed with the oil of oregano, the bactericidal activity was increased. It was found that Sýðla Storax contains 1.39% essential oils and styrene accounts for 96.55% of this oil. These findings suggested Sýðla storax and oregano essential oil has synergic effect and the mixture of Sýðla storax and oregano essential oil could be used as bactericidal agents in leather industry.
