They are responsible for the cyclical growth of scalp hair, managing the transformation of hair from the resting stage (catagen) to the active growth stage (anagen). The growth of human scalp hair is a complex, high-energy process, which creates a zone of excessive reactive oxygen species called the ‘ring of fire’. As the scalp continues to remain a key area of focus by hair care brands, innovative solutions that can help control the formation of follicle damaging ROS species—driven primarily by environmental threats—are highly sought after. Index. décimale : 668.5 Parfums et cosmétiques Résumé : - Objective : Nanotechnology has been intensively applied to the development of novel cosmetic products for hair and scalp care during the last decades. Such a trend is corroborated by the fact that about 19% of the total nanocosmetics registered in the StatNano database are intended for hair and scalp care. Nanotechnology-enabled formulations based on nanoparticles, cyclodextrins, liposomes and nanoemulsions have emerged as novel approaches due to chemical stability and their controlled release. Regarding hair care formulations, nanocarriers can target the hair shaft, hair follicle and scalp. Therefore, they have been used to treat several hair disorders, including dandruff and other hair-damaging conditions.
- Methods : This review addressed the most important nanocarriers applied to hair-related disorders improvement. Furthermore, the application for hair photoprotection and improvement of hair colour duration by nanotechnological formulations is also approached. Besides, we provided an overview of the current scenario of available nano-based commercial hair products and novel patented inventions.
- Results : From the patent search, the Patent Cooperation Treaty was pointed as the most important depositing agency while the United States of America has been the most depositing country. On the contrary, according to the StatNano database, Brazil stands out in the hair care worldwide market, and it is also the main producer of hair cosmetics based on nanotechnology.
- Conclusion : As nano-based products offer several advantages over conventional cosmetics, it is expected that in future, there will be more research on nanocarriers applied to hair disorders, as well as commercial products and patent applications.Note de contenu : - CURRENT SCENARIO OF HAIR CARE PRODUCTS BEARING NANOTECHNOLOGY : Commercial products - Recent patents

Produits hydratantsIndex. décimale : 668.5 Parfums et cosmétiques Résumé : Seiwa Kasei explains why its novel amino acid derivative Aminoflora contributes to a holistic approach in advancing overall skin wellbeing by comprehensively addressing skin, scalp, and hair health.
In recent years, scientific research has shed light on a fascinating aspect of our skin’s ecosystem: the microbiome. The skin microbiome, a complex community of microorganisms residing on the skin’s surface, has proven to play a pivotal role in maintaining skin health.1,2 There are more than 1,000 species of microorganism on the skin, and the composition of the skin microbiome depends on individuals and it changes daily. Imbalances and reductions in the diversity of the skin’s resident microorganisms can lead to skin problems.
This article aims to highlight the significance of a balanced microbiome for vibrant and youthful skin, and elucidates the role of a novel amino acid derivative, Aminoflora, in addressing the issues of microbiome balance and long-lasting moisturisation.Note de contenu : - The skin microbiome

MicrobioteIndex. décimale : 668.5 Parfums et cosmétiques Résumé : The human scalp harbors a vast community of microbiotal mutualists. Androgenetic alopecia (AGA), a most common form of hair loss in males, is a multifactorial condition involving genetic predisposition and hormonal changes. The role of microflora during hair loss remains to be understood. Here, we investigated bacterial communities in 12 healthy and 12 AGA subjects at baseline and after 84 days of treatment by Lindera strychnifolia roots extract (LsR). Using a phototrichogram, we also compared hair density and total hair counts in 17 subjects receiving LsR treatment at baseline and after 83 days of treatment.
The analysis of bacterial distribution at the genus level showed no modifications between healthy and AGA groups. Higher C. acnes/S. epidermidis ratio in AGA subjects compared to control ones was noted. Concerning the mycobiota environment, lower abundance of Basidiomycota and higher proportion of Ascomycota, associated with lower proportion of Malassezia genus and increase of other fungal genus (Wallemia, Eurotium), implicated in the hair loss process, were observed in AGA scalp. Finally, lower proportion of M. globosa and M. restricta were observed. Therefore, data from sequencing profiling of the scalp microbiota strongly support a different microbial composition between normal and AGA affected the scalp. 84 days treatment with LsR extract rebalances bacteriota and mycobiota for a healthy scalp. A significant increase in hair number that reach +6.9 % compared to Day 0 (p=0.002) was observed in the 17 subjects. At this time point, 71 % of men had an improvement of hair density. Based on these results, we conclude that the LsR extract is a promising remedy for preventing hair loss and promoting hair growth.Note de contenu : - MATERIALS AND METHODS : Preparation of extract - Subjects recruitment - Treatment

MalasseziaIndex. décimale : 668.5 Parfums et cosmétiques Résumé : Malassezia furfur is a lipophilic and dermatological pathogenic yeast, which normally exists on human skin, and causes tinea versicolor, seborrhoeic dermatitis, and atopic dermatitis, especially on human scalp. The multi-herb extraction VGP which consists of Vitex trifolia fruit, Gentiana scabra, and Polygonum multiflorum root extract was used to study its effect of anti-inflammation, controlling sebum and dandruff on scalp care. Results showed that on the model of NHEK and THP1 cell inflammation induced by Malassezia furfur, VGP can inhibit the expression of interleukin 6 (IL-6), prostaglandin E2 (PGE-2), monocyte chemoattractant protein 1 (MCP-1) and interleukin 1β (IL-1β) in a dose-dependent manner under 0.01% to 0.125% concentration. On the inflammatory model of 3D reconstructed skin induced by H2O2, VGP significantly improved the cell viability and skin structure, and reduced the production of interleukin 8 (IL-8), PGE-2, and leukotriene B4 (LTB4). During 4 week’s treatment with test shampoo contained 0.5% VGP thrice a week on 16 subjects met with different symptom, VGP reduced the sebum content and TEWL, improved the redness, itching and dandruff on human scalp skin. Therefore, as a natural active ingredient VGP can play a role in scalp care and skin care by targeting inflammation.
