Revêtements:PeintureIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Acrylic polymers are essentiel products for various industrial application fields. Particularly, they play important roles as binders (acrylic resins), dispersion resins and polymer thickeners in the coatings industry.
Since acrylic resins were launched onto the coatings market, they have distinguished themselves by meeting various quality requirements and replacing other resins. Acrylic resins are used in eco-friendly coating systems, for example. Thanks to their broad range of properties and to ongoing developments within this product class, they also serve as ingredients for different coating systems.
The present book presents an overview of the production, properties and application of acrylic resins and their distinctive features. It covers acrylic resins prepared by solution polymerization and emulsion polymerization, as well as reactive acrylic resins which form films by radiation curing. Besides a general description of these three product classes, there are chapters dealing with particular properties for the diverse application fields.
The goal of the book is to convey the latest knowledge about acrylic resins in solvent-borne and water-borne systems, and for radiation curing in an understandable and descriptive manner. Given the breadth of applications for acrylic resins, the book discusses the different chemical and physical aspects of the production methods and the related application properties. There are numerous literature citations for further reading on specific issues.
The book is aimed at students and newcomers to the field of coatings technology, and also at well-versed experts in coatings applications and other related industries. Anticorrosion
Revêtements:PeintureIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Metals, in particular steel and aluminium, are among the most important construction materials to be met in everyday life. However, these versatile materials are prone to corrosion, resulting in safety impairments, aesthetic failures, and, on the bottom line, economic damage. A major part of surface engineering of metals therefore is focused on corrosion protection.
Organic coatings have been used on any substrate for design purposes as well as to preserve the outward appearance. When applied to metals, corrosion protection becomes their most important technical feature. Though, in this respect, the primary effect of a coating is to for a physical barrier, there is no simple rule of "the thicker, the better". Effective corrosion protection provided by an organic coating requires proper preparation of the substrate surface, expert formulation of treatment and coating chemicals and appropriate application processes, as well as adaptation to different uses and service environments.
A lot of literature has been published on single aspect of corrosion protective coatings. However, corrosion protection by organic coatings is a truly cross-functional issue. Whereas, to the lead author's opinion, a unified approach to this taks is lacking that highlights the role of all disciplines involved in the creation and use of corrosion protection coatings for metals.
The intention of this book is to provide this missing synopsis. It features an up-to-date picture of the quality and chemistry of a substrate surface, its proper preparation by conversion treatment, the function of resins and anticorrosive pigments in paints, and novel concepts for corrosion protection. It is addressed to all parties involved in metal surface and coatings engineering, both the supplier and the user, both the experts as well as the student in any of the single disciplines. It is intended to contribute to a better understanding of the mutual roles and responsibilities in corrosion protective organic coatings, and pave the way to a more durable and sustainable preservation of our valuables and resources.Note de contenu : - Surface preparation

In practice, automobiles are means of transporting persons and goods. And therein lies the particularity of this form of transportation – its individuality, which is very much in vogue with current ideas. Individual mobility is often linked to the individual appearance of objects, and automobiles are no different in this regard. Popular tastes in automobiles vary enormously. Some people like to drive very prestigious cars, others prefer sporty cars, or cars which "look different" – and there are many different tastes in between. The whole appearance of automobiles is dictated by the shape of the car body and its accessories, and not least by the surface impression created by the coatings. Makers of cars and coating materials spend a lot of effort on generating particularly appealing car surfaces. These include optimising resistance to weathering, corrosion, chemicals and mechanical impact. The most important target is to preserve the appearance as long as possible, ultimately over the vehicle’s life-time.
The formulation and composition of coating materials depend on the requirements of processes of different industrial application methods. Therefore, automotive coating systems are a special class of industrial coating systems. That is why some paint producers specialise in the development and production of automotive paints. Although criticism has been levelled at ever increasing production levels (e.g. due to rising emissions of carbon dioxide), it must nonetheless be borne in mind that producers of coating systems for automotive applications pioneered the development and introduction of environmental paint systems. Currently the most important target is to avoid hazardous compounds or to replace them, and to cut emissions of organic compounds during the production and application of paints. This book presents the results of such developments within the coatings industry. The development and production of automotive coatings is not the preserve of paint producers only. Suppliers of raw materials also participate in the developments and improvements. These include major chemical companies who produce basic raw materials, and producers of specialty chemicals, polymers for coatings, pigments, and additives. Makers of application equipment contribute to the development process, too. The automotive industry itself is also interested in achieving optimum systems and processes. Some companies therefore expend a great deal of effort on researching and developing coating systems.
This book is directed at persons who are involved in those sectors of industry which are related to the development, production, testing, marketing, supply of coatings raw materials, coating systems and application equipment. The information is addressed to chemists, physicists, engineers, and other persons with technical interests who are involved with coatings. Of course, another goal is to educate persons who are working their way into the technology.
