The morphology of the particles and chemical composition and thermal stability of both the particles and the resin were evaluated. Tensile and flexural properties of the composites exhibited significant improvements with increasing resin content, attributed to good bonding between the resin and the particles and the presence of fewer voids in the composites as well as to the microstructural homogeneity, as corroborated by the fractographic studies. The thermal stability of the composites is influenced by the proportion of particles, while the swelling characteristics are affected by the amount of resin. The results taken together suggest that the developed composite can be used for various applications. Note de contenu : - Materials and methods

Traîtements de surfaceIndex. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : Natural fiber-reinforced composites must be hybridized with synthetic fibers to enhance their mechanical strength. They are appropriate for structural applications after hybridizing with more than 40 % of synthetic fibers. The hybrid composite becomes a partly biodegradable material due to the blend of natural fibers. The localized hybridization approach has been used to minimize the quantity of synthetic fiber used in hybridization. The region around the drilled hole of a composite has been identified as stress concentrated region. In that stress-concentrated region, a polyester strip of different widths is deployed to reinforce it to reduce the delamination occurrence. The present work deals with Jute Fiber reinforced unsaturated polyester resin with local hybridization of woven polyester made up of Perma Core T-18 polyester fiber strands. The interfacial shear and tensile strengths are evaluated for the proposed composite. The results revealed that the yield strength of the proposed composite increased from 18.32 MPa to 29.62 MPa due to local hybridization. The increment of 69.24 % in yield strength is more significant for structural applications. Note de contenu : - LITERATURE SURVEY

Fractographic analysis, i.e. the examination and interpretation of fracture surfaces, provides an insight into the causes and location of failure. Previously considered as a "black art", specialists now relate fracture morphologies to failure mechanisms with confidence and provide information about the failure sequence and source of failure initiation. This technique gives great feedback and can allow better design for next-generation parts.Note de contenu : - Fig. 1. Soudures -- Propriétés mécaniquesIndex. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : In this work, top surface lubrication during friction stir welding of polycarbonate sheets was applied. A homogenous layer of Paraffin wax has been placed on the top surface of the joint area with a width that ensures to cover the shoulder diameter. Then FSW was applied using conventional FSW tool with rotating pin and shoulder at different FSW parameters (Rotation speeds of 1 000, 1500, 2 000 min–1 and welding speeds of 25, 50, 75,100 mm/min). The main objective of using the wax is to act as a lubricant that reduces the friction between the shoulder and the polycarbonate surface. The joints produced were investigated in terms of surface quality, internal defects, and mechanical properties. During FSW the wax is melted and played as lubricant between the tool shoulder and the polycarbonate surface and resulted in defect-free surface with no thickness reduction of the original plate. The transverse cross-section showed defect-free joints for the majority of the FSW parameters investigated. Tensile testing results showed a reduction of the tensile strength after FSW, and an enhancement in the tensile strength with the increase of welding speed or rotation speed. The fracture occurs at the joint zone and the fracture surface investigation using SEM showed the existence of spherulitic structure in the weld joint.
