Orthodox UV curing coatings show some advantages, but their held of application is also restricted, especially in the case of pigmented formulations. New technologies, however, may prove to have great potential. RevêtementsIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Although many coatings have additives to increase their resistance to mar and scratch damage, those coatings are designed for other functions (decoration, corrosion protection, etc.) and the damage protection is simply done with a little bit of wax or PTFE emulsion. However, there are products of such critical need for scratch protection that a special class of high performance coatings have been designed to protect these materials. The prime usage is in airplane windows or canopies where survival of high speed travelling in the omnipresent dust of the atmosphere is an absolute necessity so the pilot can see to land the aircraft in day or night. The silica filled silane and polyurethane based materials are reviewed, and test procedures discussed. Permalink : https://e-campus.itech.fr/pmb/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=11386

VernisIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Water-based binders which make it possible to formulate low-solvent lacquers for wood are attracting more and more attention in the light of changing legislation, especially in Austria and Switzerland, and growing environmental awareness on the part of end users. Here, water-based acrylic dispersions are becoming increasingly important, being predestined for making low-solvent products. This article first compares the properties of conventional acrylic copolymer dispersions with those of dispersion blends and multi-stage polymers. Their minimum film forming temperature (MFT) and glass transition temperature (Tg) are investigated, as well as properties such as blocking resistance, pendulum hardness, elongation at break and mar resistance in waterborne clear lacquers. Also compared are the penetration resistance and depth of penetration of a dispersion and a conventional nitrocellulose lacquer, using the Fischerscope 100. Note de contenu : - General remarks on wood and furniture lacquers
- General comments on aqueous polymer dispersions
- Tests carried out - Minimum film forming temperature (MFFT) and glass transition temperature (Tg) - Blockink resistance - Hardness - Elongation at break
- Dispersions investigated and test results - Single stage polymers (homogeneous dispersions) - Two-stage emulsion polymers and dispersion blends

RhéologieIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Physical blends of acrylic emulsions and PU dispersions represent an important volume in waterborne polymers. Practically, a compromise is achieved between the excellent mechanical properties of polyurethane and the lower cost of the acrylic emulsions. The attempt of the research presented here is to find out a copolymerization method using free radical emulsion techniques as well as to study the structure-properties relationship.
