This paper addresses issues associated with defining the dynamic behaviour of sandwich core materials for marine applications. In addition to the existing test methods employed to establish core shear properties at various strain rates, a new and novel procedure has been developed to test sandwich panels in a simulated slamming mode. The results of the tests on four core materials are compared using the different test methods. Comments on the suitability of the materials for use in slamming regions of marine vessels are made. |
