Leather test results for slit tear strength, hardness of the grain surface and stiffness gave no evidence that sulfated sperm oil analogs produced leather significantly different from sulfated sperm whale oil in these physical properties. Degree of sulfation of the oils and type of mordant used, however, had significant effects on physical properties. Penetration of oil into the kidney location was affected by type of fatliquor used, degree of sulfation and type of mordant used; and the amount of oil taken up by the leather was influenced by neutralization level. |
