Probably the most important advantage claimed for limewash in such applications is the ability of the applied coating to alow aged building fabrics to "breathe" absorbed moisture, thus minimising damage due to water entrapment. However notwithstanding the perceived value of "breating" properties there is very little published information on the water vapour transmission of limewash to enable users to make an informed choice on product selection.
In response to this need, the Building Research Establishement has developed a test method for determining the permeability characteristics of limewashes. This test is based on a standard dish' technique widely used for measuring the moisture permeability of modern polymeric surface coatings. With some modification, the test has been found to be suitable for measuring the permeability of different types of limewash.Permalink : https://e-campus.itech.fr/pmb/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=17029
