A perfluorinated urethane (PFU) mixture was laboratory prepared and incorporated in some laboratory prepared physical barrier anti-corrosive paint formulations. Testing and evaluation of the different paint films was carried out. It was found that incorporation of the PFU mixture as an additive in paint films increases their protective properties. Superior protective properties were obtained using 0.75-1.0g of the PFU mixture per 100g of (pigment-binder)phase. It is postulated that the increased protective action may be due to the hydrophobic properties attained by incorporating the PFU in the formulated paints, and the resulting teflon-like surface properties. |
