During braiding, carbon fibres are deposited onto a mandrel while adapting its shape. State-of-the-art braiding technology is limited to convex mandrels but an adapted concept is being investigated for complex parts with concave cross-sections. In cooperation with Roding Automobile GmbH, the SGL Institute for Carbon Composites (LCC) of the Technical University of Munich demonstrated the braidability of a windscreen frame with concave sections.
